Blatant Disregard for Facts

RECEIVED Thu., July 20, 2017

Dear Editor,
In response to "Planned Parenthood Sues Texas Over Anti-Choice Bill SB 8," [Daily News, July 20]: When I see articles like this, it occurs to me that individuals like Greg Abbott and his ilk have no conception whatsoever of the Christian values they claim to uphold. The D&E ban found in Senate Bill 8 is not a step toward discouraging abortion – it is a spiteful move of blind cruelty, intended to make life more difficult and dangerous for women in helpless, compromised positions. When the gynecological community, people who have trained and worked years to develop expertise on women’s health, throng to disagree with you about a medical matter, it is your duty as a prudent and responsible politician to listen to them. What we see here, in Senate Bill 8 and elsewhere in the Abbott administration, is a blatant disregard for facts, a keen interest in oppressing those with whom they have neither connection nor empathy, and a disinterest in the public good for the sake of a miserable confusion between church and state. I pray that Texan citizens will see this and recognize the difference between such actions and logical, humane policy.
