Heartbreaking Insights

RECEIVED Wed., April 19, 2017

Dear Editor,
Sarah Marloff’s cover story “A Band-Aid Won’t Cover It” in last week’s issue of the Chronicle [April 14] provided heartbreaking insights into the health care landscape that transgender patients face – not only for gender affirming care, but also mental health and general health care services. We hear from transgender patients at Planned Parenthood’s health centers about their past experiences and fears about seeking important health screenings and treatments. With Texas’ leading politicians targeting transgender Texans for discriminatory and bigoted policies, it is more important than ever that health care resources are available for trans and GNC patients in Texas. We welcome the valuable expansion of services at the Kind Clinic and recently began offering Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy, using the informed consent model, at our North Austin health center. We are proud to provide all patients, no matter who they love or how they identify, with access to the quality health care that all Texans deserve.
