Hope for the New Year

RECEIVED Tue., Dec. 6, 2016

Dear Editor,
I want to change the tone as we close out 2016 and head into the holidays and the new year. I'm about done with all the gloomy talk, and I want to remind all you Austinites that there are plenty of things we can do in our community to make it better. I want us to lead the nation in green buildings, urban parks, and renewable energy use. I want us to carpool, take public transportation, and ride a bike or even a scooter (get weird with it). I want us to continue to support music and the arts and foster new educational experiences. I want us to help those less fortunate in our communities, foster/adopt a pet from our fantastic animal shelters, join Meals on Wheels or sit with our elderly for a nice chat. I want us to plant a tree, meet our neighbors, and mend fences. Let's make 2017 a great year in Austin – no one can take it from us.
