Dear Editor,
[Re: “
Page Two: The Fix,” June 10] I seriously have to wonder about those who think a President Clinton would do better with a Republican dominated Congress than a President Sanders. This is absurd. The Republicans will block everything a Democratic president will try to do, whoever she may be. Obama bent himself in pretzels in his first term trying to find common ground with Republicans. Why it would be any different with a President Clinton is not obvious to me. The real question this year is: Who are you more afraid of, Trump or Clinton? Readers of the
Chronicle may have a hard time understanding that a large chunk of this nation might not love Trump, but they are terrified of Clinton. Just as many Sanders supporters might not love Clinton but most will vote for her out of fear of Trump. Either way, unless there is a Democratic landslide in the Congress and the Republicans lose the Senate, a Democratic president will face unified Republican opposition. Does anyone remember when pundits would talk of some societies being too tribal to have democracy? Under this kind of social arrangement, it is purely a numbers game based on population. This is why Iraqi Sunnis refuse to acknowledge they are a minority within Iraq. Well, the USA is now too tribal to have democracy work, as it is just a game of what percent of certain ethnicities vote. It is delusion to think Clinton will be greeted with any less hostility than Obama, or Sanders, would face.
