Tragic Loss

RECEIVED Sun., April 3, 2016

Dear Editor,
Upon hearing of the tragic loss of our local workhorse for good Mary Gay Maxwell, our initial reaction is sadness [“Austin Environmental Board Chair Dies,” News, March 31]. Our feelings turn to gratefulness and admiration when we further reflect on her life.
When the city was figuring out how to provide some long-overdue accessibility to our beloved Barton Springs Pool, Mary Gay Maxwell infused the process with class and grace. She treated us with respect and addressed us with candor. While the uniqueness and rich heritage of BSP were maintained, the accessibility features have been completed, thus expanding the opportunity for many more to enjoy our not-so-secret treasure.
Mary Gay Maxwell played a key part in making the process happen the right way; her honor and service will be missed. Here’s to a life well-lived.
