Radio Silence

RECEIVED Mon., Jan. 25, 2016

Dear Editor,
Do I detect one other “floating change”? For the first time in forever, this issue [Jan. 22] has no front cover sidebar, along the spine. For Sarah Brown's cover [Jan. 15], it says “bassline of discussion.”
We have been enjoying these little “asides,” comments, and/or snide remarks for years. I get a kick out of how many readers have never noticed them before. I can only imagine that this absence is a tribute to Paul Ray – now silenced. I believe, however, that Paul would have dug something like “this one is for Diana” – his widow, who has to have had more songs dedicated to her ever in the history of radio – or even perhaps “let's twine, y'all! ooo, aah, ooo-aah.”
Say hi to Stevie and Alex; and Pinetop, Junior, and Clifford for us, Paul!

[Creative Director Jason Stout responds: In an otherwise wonderfully smooth transition, the cover slug was a casualty of the move to our new printer. Don't fear: It's back this week, and for all time. Just to get it in print, the missing slug was “oh, to capture just one drop of all the ecstasy that swept that afternoon.”]
