Dear Editor, Where is the public forum for voters to hear candidates debate vital issues about one of the fastest-growing areas of Austin/Travis County – Precinct 1? Austinites are facing a historic change in representation for Travis County Commissioner Precinct 1, since the retirement from the Travis County Commissioners Court by Ron Davis after almost two decades in office. Unprecedented growth, transportation issues, urban/suburban water issues, “suburbanization” of poverty in unincorporated areas of the county, landfill impact on Precinct 1 residents' (especially children's) health, education, and employment needs are just a few of Precinct 1 residents' and business owners' concerns. The public needs a debate forum to learn the position and intent of each of the candidates, in order to learn which candidate will best represent this vast area of Travis County. Opportunities for economic development need to be fulfilled in Precinct 1, in coordination with Mayor Adler and Austin City Council members' actions to bring equity and economic viability to this essential growth area of Austin/Travis County. Where can citizens of Precinct 1 hear the candidates Richard Franklin, James Nortey, Jeff Travillion, and others present themselves, in a public debate format, so that voters may make an informed decision and vote for their choice for the best representative for Travis County Precinct 1?
