Too Loud!

RECEIVED Wed., Sept. 30, 2015

Dear Editor,
[regarding “Mark Knopfler Repaves Telegraph Road,” Music, Sept. 28]: Curious whether anyone else had this experience: Most all the musicians, really all, on the stage were excellent. However, for most of the entire concert the bass was so loud it covered most all the other music and all the lyrics. “Sultans of Swing” was buried in volume, as though it was some kind of AC/DC production.
It may have been a PA mix problem for those of us in the balcony in front of the hanging speaker arrays. But the bass was freakin' way too loud and ruined the music for the most part, and most of the night. I stayed throughout, including the encores, since my gal loves Mark K. A lot of folks in the upper levels left after an hour or so. Gave up waiting for a better mix. I know it's not just me getting old, because Mr. Bob Dylan's mix was perfect in a small theatre in Houston.
Someone at the board in Austin needs to understand that even when electrified, the piccolo, the bagpipes, the saxophone, and acoustic guitars, and piano need to be heard and blended.
All the best, looking for the next good time in Austin!
