Waste of Space

RECEIVED Tue., Aug. 25, 2015

Dear Editor,
I'm against the death penalty, and I hope the blossoming social-justice movement in this country puts a stop to executions in the next few years.
That said, pretty much every time I read your "Death Watch" column, I think to myself, "Good thing they're killing this one while they still can. What are they using now, a cocktail of Drano, engine coolant, and Crystal Palace gin? Good. Make the motherfucker squirm a little."
The depravity of the subhumans profiled in this column overwhelms my intellectual distaste for state-sponsored vengeance. I've discussed it with a couple of friends and we agree that "Death Watch," despite its predictable litany of horrible upbringings and incompetent lawyers, actually engenders support for Texas' execution regime.
You could make better use of these column inches by profiling pets at local shelters looking for homes, or local nonprofits in need of volunteers.
