Dear Editor,
As an African-American who has his own opinions, I don't think any great effort should be taken to remove any Confederate memorials ["
Written in Stone," News, May 29]. These people are part of our American heritage and have become examples that we all can learn from. I have learned from personal experience that you can't force anyone to believe what you believe and have come to accept that if a person hates me because of my race they have the freedom to do so. Each individual bears the results of their own choices and actions. This is true for those in the past, present, and future, and may God have mercy on our souls.
