Not a Fan of Maakies

RECEIVED Wed., Nov. 12, 2014

Dear Editor,
I have one question about this “comic” strip. Why do you continue to print this tripe? It is grotesque, not funny, and pointless. You can do so much better.

Mike Martinez For Mayor?

RECEIVED Wed., Nov. 12, 2014

Dear Editor,
I find Mr. Martinez's sudden concern with the middle class interesting since many years ago he tried to make the hard-working employees of Capital Metro take pay cuts because of his mismanagement of the creation of the Red Line train while he was on the Capital Metro board. Those bus drivers don't make much as it is, and he wanted to dock them for his WTF? I have yet to see an apology for that.

Feel the Noise

RECEIVED Wed., Nov. 12, 2014

Dear Editor,
You can’t live Downtown if you can’t sleep! Nighttime construction noise undermines the quality of life for Austin’s Downtown residents. Imagine a lawnmower in your bedroom at night: 90 decibels! That’s as loud as the nighttime concrete pouring operations in Downtown Austin. Earplugs don’t work. Many folks have had to move out of Downtown.
A fair solution exists. Six Austin City Council members have voted in support of Downtown noise limits. A second reading of a proposed ordinance comes up on November 20.
Dallas, Houston, New York, and many more cities all have nighttime construction noise bans that apply citywide, including downtown. This strikes a fair balance between downtown construction and downtown living.
Let’s be fair to Downtown Austin residents and limit construction noise at night, just as it is limited for all other neighborhoods in Austin: no loud construction noise from 7pm to 7am.
