Dear Editor, Sometimes tragedies unite people, and other times they divide them badly. I think that the benefit of waiting a little while before making political comments on a tragedy isn't so much so you don't look like you're exploiting deaths to make a point, but so you don't say things or set a tone you might later regret while you are still emotional. Something like this should remind us how valuable and, often, too short life is, and how it's important to be kind to each other, even while in disagreement. No matter how maddeningly illogical someone's comments on this may strike you (and me!), please remember that they are just as horrified as you are and that they are also looking to find some sort of explanation and a way to prevent this from ever happening again. Let's just be glad that we're all alive, and love and respect each other, and when we're a bit more emotionally recovered, learn what can be learned and take carefully considered measures to prevent this from happening again in the future.
