Why No Swooning Over Pressley?

RECEIVED Tue., May 1, 2012

Dear Editor,
The Chronicle's tepid endorsement of Mike Martinez for Place 2 failed to mention that he has a challenger [“May 12 Municipal Election: The 'Chronicle' Endorsements,” News, April 27]: Dr. Laura Pressley. Pressley, who earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from UT, comes from the semiconductor industry (ordinarily a swoon), is a successful small-business entrepreneur marketing a health-oriented product (ordinarily a swoon), and has long been an outspoken advocate for survivors of domestic violence (ordinarily a swoon). But when you put them all together and they spell "Pressley," the result is resounding silence.
The Chronicle mentioned Sheryl Cole's sole challenger, Shaun Ireland, by name. It also named two of Bill Spelman's opponents – Tina Cannon and Dom Chavez. It rightly gave Clay Dafoe some respectful coverage in the mayoral race. But of Laura Pressley, nary a word. The omission can only be deliberate. Chronicle readers should be asking themselves why.
