Wants News not Tainted by Opinions

RECEIVED Fri., July 1, 2011

Dear Editor,
It has become painfully clear to me that if I want to watch the news minus the commentary, my only choice on the American airwaves is the BBC News. Not one station in America can be counted as being anything other than opinion. Modern man seems to be more concerned with being entertained, even in this area, and I, for one, long for the days when news may have been boring, but it was news nonetheless. Aldous Huxley, although a sci-fi writer, wrote about the changes that would come in our future; the way that the media and newly invented words would be used to form a predisposition in the subconscious pro- and anti- for any topic at hand. I see this more and more evident in the media everyday. No matter your position, there is only slant these days, and I, for one, am sick of it. Be it boring or mundane, I would still rather have the news reported and as Fox so suspiciously states, decide for myself. For me, it doesn’t matter right or left, conservative or progressive, because these words have new meanings and nothing and no one out there today can state with any conviction that they are bias-free. Well, America, there are still people such as myself who prefer truth over fluff and sustenance over hyperbolic speech made to incite the mob mentalities that only set to divide this country further.
Thank you for your time,
Tracy Haus
