Better Not To Be Dead Right

RECEIVED Tue., Sept. 7, 2010

Dear Editor,
OK, we've established that bicyclists have the right to be on the road, but why would you want to be? The majority of vehicles weigh at least 2,000 pounds or more. If one of them hits you, there is a possibility of death.
I ride a bike to work. I take bike lanes, back roads, and sidewalks (giving right-of-way to pedestrians). My route is an extra mile to do this.
I grew up riding bikes and motorcycles. Two rules that I was taught are: 1) You are invisible to cars, and 2) everyone is out to get you.
Bicyclists have the right to be on the road, but don't be dead right.
