Dear Editor, With more than 13,000 soldiers sent home since the don’t ask, don’t tell policy was put into effect in 1993 by President Clinton, it is time to repeal the policy and allow gays and lesbians to openly serve in the U.S. military. As a gay and lesbian supporter, I strongly believe that it isn’t the sexual orientation that matters but the willingness to want to serve our country. It is one of the most honored and selfless acts one can choose to do. I applaud the gay and lesbian soldiers who are currently risking their lives to protect the people of America and not asking for anything in return, knowing the risk of being caught and losing all benefits. America should practice what we preach and treat all citizens equally, despite sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, or gender.
