Watson Neglected Transit

RECEIVED Mon., Dec. 14, 2009

Dear Editor,
Lee Nichols wrote that Sen. Kirk Watson has been "heavily involved" in transportation issues throughout his political career [“Resizing the CAMPO Tent,” News, Dec. 11] . Unfortunately, toward the end of his tenure as mayor, Watson was running for state office and largely neglected the massive transportation referendum before voters at that time. The referendum narrowly lost. Had Watson devoted as much energy to passage of the referendum as he did to his candidacy for state office, Austin would almost certainly be 20 years further along in developing mass transit.
