Dear Editor, The Downtown library shines behind the scenes. Connections to WorldCat, ILLiad, and TexShare enable borrowers in good standing to access materials worldwide. Getting materials to the community is a desirable accomplishment. I wonder whether library funders wholeheartedly value this democratic, educational principle. The Library board is now joined to the Friends of the Library. The affiliation can create open, attractive, community libraries. Voters approved tens of millions for a worthy library even while branches now close two days a week. Here is an opportunity that Austin can make into a nationally respected library.
