Stop Police Union 'Veto'

RECEIVED Wed., June 24, 2009

Dear Editor,
The threat by the police union to renege on their offer to forgo pay raises if the city approves a music department is an unacceptable interference in the affairs of the city. If City Council caves in to this pressure, it will effectively be giving the police union veto power over council decisions. City Council should send a clear message that such interference will not be tolerated by approving the music department and laying off enough officers to save at least $5 million if the police union follows through on its threat.
