Money to Restore Mansion has Better Uses

RECEIVED Tue., June 2, 2009

Dear Editor,
It was sad to read that state politicians recently decided to give $22 million to rebuild the old Governor's Mansion. It would have been far better if they had bulldozed the old one and built a homeless shelter in its place. There are plenty of nice homes in West Austin for a million or less that would be more than adequate for a governor's residence. It's time for those who call themselves "public servants" to come down from their high horses and to actually serve the people for a change. No public servants should live in a $22 million mansion unless they pay for it with their own money.
Sincerely,
John ONeill
