'Chronicle' Makes Mistake on Kill Rate

RECEIVED Sat., April 4, 2009

Dear Editor,
As a former member of the Animal Advisory Commission and as someone who continues to promote dialogue and awareness about animal shelter issues, I welcome articles that stimulate public discussion about what is going on at our animal shelter [“How Many Cats Did Austin Save Last Year?” News, April 3]. Unfortunately, the Chronicle didn't get some basic facts right. I do agree with Ryan Clinton's numbers – the kill rate at Town Lake Animal Center has not declined each year of Dorinda Pulliam's tenure. I don't understand how the Chronicle could get something so wrong that is so basic and so easy to check. I hope you publish a correction in next week's issue.
