They're Going Solar While We're Not

RECEIVED Sat., March 7, 2009

Dear Editor,
They're doing it in sunny Japan. It's happening in sun-drenched Germany. They're going solar while we twiddle our thumbs.
Now we have the chance to get in on that free energy from our baking Texas sun, instead of just suffering under it.
I'm tired of waiting. Ever since the Seventies, I've been hearing that 1) solar energy is just around the corner, but 2) it's still too expensive.
Enough already! We'll get real long-term bang for our buck from solar, not to mention increased energy independence, jobs, and less pollution. And if the cost of building it is spread fairly among all customers, it will mean a trivial bump to the average bill.
The City Council should look to the future and approve the solar array. The right time is right now.
Sincerely,
Chris Jones
