Many thanks to Richard Whittaker for both attending and covering the Iraq Veterans Against the War (www.ivaw.org) Winter Soldier testimony on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars on Feb. 28 [“Winter Soldier in Austin,” News, March 6]. This event was a powerful testimony against the futility and human cost of war.
The Chronicle remains one of the few media outlets that keeps this forgotten travesty in the public eye. As noted in his article, military recruiting is exceeding its goals due to the wretched economy and those scrounging for jobs. I encourage everyone to join the struggle against militarism, corporatism, and social injustice that this country spreads like a plague around the world.
