Texas Should Declare Sovereignty

RECEIVED Fri., Feb. 13, 2009

Dear Editor,
It's quite shocking Texas isn't the leader of the nine states who have already introduced bills and resolutions declaring sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. Twelve other states are considering the same. Instead we have state representatives touting their disapproval of the bailout, yet in the same breath, welcoming the dirty money should the plan pass regardless of their efforts. Texas should unequivocally deny any bailout money; in fact, now is the perfect time for Texas to declare its sovereignty under the 10th Amendment, immediately. Texas should ensure safeguards to its people and protect them from the growing corporate dictatorship. Most people have no idea what lies within the pages of the bailout proposal. Things like new requirements for handgun license applicants including access to private medical history, “hate crime” laws to regulate religious beliefs, mandatory public service: It's a constant regulation of one civil liberty after another. If we don't wake up soon, the Constitution of the United States and America the country will be a thing of the past. The mass public blinded by celebrity and sensationalism while the media reports on irresponsibility and beauty. Wake up, Texans! Now is the time to contact state and congressional representatives insisting they draft an immediate resolution so that Texas may declare sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. Even though ironically, our "state" (the corporation) has plans of its own to disarm further civil liberties from the people such as mandatory DNA capture for misdemeanors, "sobriety" checkpoints, and the use of biometric identification. What an eerie coincidence these measures against the people are happening in sync federally and locally. Everyone was right: Our new president is certainly making history – only it's not because he is black.
Graciously yours,
Colette Michalec
