Follow Hugo Chávez's Example

RECEIVED Mon., July 7, 2008

Dear Editor,
Politicians keep telling us nothing can be done to combat the surge of oil prices. This is a complete farce. We can follow the Venezuelan example and have a U.S. government takeover of American oil companies. Economic problem solved! End speculation and investment fraud, and reverse the unjust petroleum rate increases. President Bush blocked a buyout of an American chain already, stating it was a matter of national security. Americans and the economy are just as important! Even General Motors is facing bankruptcy. Big oil makes and surpasses their projected quarterly earnings, and the CEOs expand their pension plans while cutting ours. They get "insur"ance checks for all the equipment destroyed and people maimed or injured by "insur"gents. We as consumers are getting bled from drilling to driving, and even the vehicle emissions produced from using their products. We don't have the production facilities to change crude to gasoline here cheaply. Producing more refineries would certainly help. Socialize this national treasure and pay for the health care of everyone in this country, while creating a budget surplus. The money we don't spend at the pump will stimulate the rest of the economy. Hugo Chávez seems to be a modern-day Robin Hood!
