It Does 'Imply,' but It Doesn't 'Prove'

RECEIVED Thu., May 8, 2008

Dear Austin Chronicle,
Louis Black and his lunch companion should take a basic course in statistics and probability, or at least look up "imply" in the dictionary, because correlation may indeed imply causation [“Page Two,” May 9]. What it doesn't do is prove causation.
Sincerely,
Steve Jakab
