Solution to Illegal Immigrant Problem Is Clear: Self-Righteous Rhetoric

RECEIVED Mon., Nov. 5, 2007

Dear Editor,
The solution to the illegal immigration problem is clear. But once again Louis Black’s unwillingness to think critically and with moral clarity causes him to miss the boat [“Page Two,” Nov. 2].
For 50 years the advocates of neo-leftist multiculturalism have attempted to measure all cultures as equal in moral and productive worth. But the truth is that societies are different and not equivalent. This is the core problem regarding illegal migration. And it has always been a primary wedge issue used to push the highly dysfunctional multicultural agenda.
Unfortunately, our southern neighbors are caught in pre-20th century social atavism that renders them culturally stunted. They remain in a premodern feudal system of serfs and lords. And now, in the name of multiculturalism, there are those who ignorantly and stupidly wish to welcome this backwardness to the United States.
In contrast, the American model evolved to honor individual merit while suppressing the vanity and excesses of ego with generally accepted moral values. This formula has produced the most enlightened, productive human organization in history – the United States of America.
Other than Islamist fascism, which ironically is enabled by multiculturalism as practiced by Louis and his cohorts, the illegal flow of humanity from the medieval cultures of Mexico and Latin America is the greatest threat to the free world. Indeed, it is time that those nations acknowledge this predicament. They must transform themselves to join the modern world honoring individual liberty, human dignity, and honest competition while enjoying the progress that will surely follow. And we must assist by being honest and straightforward.
The alternative is a balkanized America and world where misery instead of freedom and its bounty will prevail. And unless people such as Louis face these realities, they are of no help. But apparently this is his definition: “compassionate” neo-leftism.
