Very Bad Idea: Single-Member Districts

Dear Editor,
In addition to putting a couple of folks on the dais who will make the current council members look like Dennis Kucinich, single-member districts [“Slicing the Map,” News, Nov. 2] will create a lot of tortured "parochial" (as described by Commissioner Sarah Eckhardt) votes, like the recent Travis County decision to: 1) not cut a deal with Browning-Ferris Industries limiting the life of their landfill but 2) not oppose their expansion either. Single-member districts are an extremely bad idea for Austin.
