Austin Is More Than Just a T-Shirt Slogan

RECEIVED Thu., Sept. 27, 2007

Dear Editor,
The idea of Austin as merely a T-shirt slogan is sad to me. Perhaps if you look more closely, some of the more endearing and enduring pioneers will come in to focus. A few of us, myself included, have moved to the outlying areas. However the legacy of weirdness carries on unabated!
When I was a teenager, living in the D.C. area, there was a T-shirt slogan that impressed me: "I am not a tourist; I live here." My suggestion for a new Austin slogan is this: "I don't live here; I'm weird."
I had to write this, as yesterday when delivering eggs, I saw Leslie on South First and had to stop for another cup of coffee.
   Nobody here but us chickens!
