Is This Keeping Austin Weird?

RECEIVED Mon., June 18, 2007

Dear Editor,
Speaking of "weird," did anyone else notice that the most prominent sponsor of the Keep Austin Weird Festival and 5K was AT&T? My understanding of the "Keep Austin Weird" concept was the support and promotion of local businesses like RunTex, Amy's, The Austin Chronicle, and Waterloo, etc. If that's the case, why was AT&T involved so conspicuously? Obviously it had a lot to do with their generous financial support, but doesn't it seem glaringly against the spirit of this event?
