Dear Editor, Supporters of the Austin Public Library system should carefully consider the effect of a big, downtown library costing more than $100 million and taking scarce resources from the branch libraries. In my neighborhood, most residents never have a reason to go to the downtown library. Even with better parking, better meeting rooms, and an auditorium, a big downtown library will not serve our neighborhood. The alleged improvements to book access are certainly less important than improvements to our neighborhood branch libraries' resources. Voters should reject Proposition 6.
