Vote for Your Life

RECEIVED Mon., June 19, 2006

Dear Editor,
Torch Lady, thank you for a real good time.
I don't have any answers, just a question and some old song lyrics. I feel lucky to have been born here, but:
How can we be called a superpower? We haven't won a major military victory in 60 years. In WWII – we killed over 900,000 civilians from bombing in German and Japanese cities. Korea, Vietnam, and now Iraq were started over questionable reasons for national security. It doesn't seem like we can bring security in Iraq without reverting to killing a lot of civilians like we did in WWII. We've lost most of our manufacturing and now engineering to China and India – this is WWIII (economic-wise) already, and we're getting our asses kicked. We have the most spoiled, highest consuming, apathetic, crappy pop cultural citizenry on the planet (me included).
Good songs say it all: Are we rollin’ downhill like a snowball headed for hell? I may be going to hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoying the ride. If I had my way I'd tear this ol' building down. Don't worry be happy. I don't trust nothin’ but I know it turn out right. I know you got your fist out, say your peace and get out. Yeah I know the gist of it but it's all right. Just a box of rain I don't know who put it there – such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there. Our homeland bless me forever.
Get out and vote – you're life could depend on it.
