Tax Structure Unfair; Gov. Perry Good

RECEIVED Wed., Jan. 18, 2006

Dear Editor,
Reading about how the proposals to change the tax structure have been deemed unconstitutional, there is still hope for the proposed reform. Perhaps, in order to pass the new measures, the Congress should vote again. The United States has changed a lot over the last several decades.
More people need to understand the importance of moving a portion of taxes for public education to the state level. People making decisions in neighboring cities are mainly concerned with improving their own situation and gaining funds. This logic has been justified by allowing surrounding areas access to their public schools. The city of Austin managed to annex the Dell Diamond, while leaving the rest of Round Rock unincorporated; it greatly depreciated the schools in Round Rock to give much-needed funds to Austin.
The main problem is that most people do not understand the significance of annexation. Those who do understand may falsely believe that it is fair. However, as a stated percentage people living in urban areas pay more, though the dollar amount is about the same. The upper class would not feel very much of a change either, because the overpopulation is most associated with urban areas.
Currently, the tax structure is very unfair and has led to a form of slavery affecting the majority of people all over the United States. Most families are going without basic essentials, such as food, shelter, and clothing.
I see that Gov. Rick Perry is doing a good and positive thing to reform not only tax structures, but social unrest, and crime rates.
Thank you,
