Dear Editor, I have lived in and out of Austin since 1972. During this time, I have been fortunate to experience so many of the incredible bluesmen that have passed through our great musical community, including two young local brothers named Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan. Nobody, including The Austin Chronicle, seems to be aware of a hard-working guitar slinger with the initials “ET” that is presently among us. I can assure you that Eric “Eazy” Tessmer will not be our exclusive prize for very long. Anyone who was named after Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix and has the added sounds of a young Johnny Winter can only be shooting for the stars. This kid is the brightest shining star in Austin and illuminates his astonishing sound almost every night of the week to surprisingly meager crowds. Wake up, Austin Chronicle, before this electric star rises too far and blinds you.
Sincerely, Michael Cass
[Music Editor Raoul Hernandez replies: I'm aware. Tessmer can wail, no doubt, but like one of his prime influences, SRV – right down to his cap – he still hasn't quite woodshedded out of his hero's shadow. Nevertheless, you're right: He's a local to watch.]
