A Bigot Without Sin Steps in to Chide the Rest of Us

RECEIVED Thu., Oct. 27, 2005

Dear Editor,
Just look at we Americans. Something happens like 9/11, and all of a sudden we recognize true virtue, honor, character; and we all flood the churches paying homage to God the way we should have done regularly. Why, just a few days before, some of us were making political arguments (wrongly) about the very things we just now recognized. But sadly, as we return to everyday life, we soon forget. Now there are some of us protesting the loss of life of our sons and daughters in war, but many reserve the "right" to kill them ourselves for convenience sake when we support abortion. Let a massive hurricane strike, and we are quick to criticize others for not responding quickly or doing enough while we ourselves have sat on our duff doing nothing. Too often there are the needy in our path and we walk quickly by on the other side and then thump the bottom of the collection plate at church. We seemed to be concerned about gays being treated equally, but what we are really saying is: Recognize their sin so I can continue in mine. If you want gays treated fairly, then tell them the truth so they can have an opportunity at real life. If we would straighten out our own house, then we would be more respected in the eyes of the other nations. A good rule to go by is "If it is not fit to take your children to, then you don't need to be there either".
