Plight Silent and Unseen

RECEIVED Thu., Sept. 22, 2005

Dear Editor,
What no man could dismantle, nature has wrecked asunder. The last bastion of true, ramble-free independence has been brought to the Republican truce table with white flags waving high. In their robust enthusiasm to propagate big solutions and bandy impressive numbers, the Bush administration and cohorts have granted just about anyone close and familiar to lead the charge and reconstruction effort in the Gulf Coast, primarily New Orleans. Yet another bonus-day giveaway. The same contractors who were granted choice deals in Iraq will get the same exclusive privileges in New Orleans. Their glee and pleasure is bubbling over in epidemic proportions. Celebrate the glory.
The locals though have been left crumbs and bones in the handout process, and it's doubtful anyone will recognize the new city to arise out of the muddy mire of the Katrina catastrophe. Wave of a wand and magic, poof, "Here's your new home, Mrs. Jackson.” "Isn't it precious and aren't I wonderful.” Miracle of miracles, I doubt the Bush team has any intention of soliciting input from the displaced and unfortunate. The end result may not have substance, but it will undoubtedly please the eyes of those who know best for us all. Sad tales continue to muse our historical accountings. Some have left home forever, eternally seeking roots they can call their own. Their journey and plight silent and unseen.
