Unhappy With AMD's Plans

RECEIVED Wed., May 11, 2005

Dear Editor:
I was very disturbed to hear about AMD's plans to move 2,000-to-3,000 employees from offices in East and North Austin to a site on Southwest Parkway in the Barton Springs Watershed [“AMD and the Edwards Aquifer,” News, April 22]. I am even more disturbed to keep reading the false statements being made in the Statesman regarding the project. The bottom line is that the facility will not comply with the SOS ordinance, and it will not reduce traffic on Southwest Parkway and MoPac. The move will bring thousands of commuters onto the environmentally sensitive zone every day. Austin has fought hard for the last 30 years to steer major employers away from the watershed to preferred growth areas, and it's a disappointment that AMD is so blatantly ignoring what is best for Austin. For more information and to voice your opposition to the relocation of AMD, please go to www.moveamd.com.
