Dear Editor, The planets rarely align in the transportation business. Mostly transportation just muddies along through trial and error and narrow self-interest. Then along comes the plug-in gas/electric hybrid automobile, the vehicle for all occasions ["Can Austin Kick-Start the Hybrid-Car Future?," News, Oct. 22]. It’s good for local errands driven electrically and for traveling across the country using the internal combustion engine. I believe that we have met the future. Many thanks to Council Members Brewster McCracken and Danny Thomas and to Mayor Will Wynn for recognizing an opportunity and using the city’s influence to move the plug-in hybrid Sprinter van along.
