Where Was Everyone?

RECEIVED Wed., Aug. 25, 2004

Dear Editor,
I saw an article about a ceremony to honor Texas National Guard troops who are being deployed to Iraq. Two days before, there was a big celebration on Congress for Lance Armstrong, which thousands attended. Yet no government officials such as representatives of Sen. Cornyn or Sen. Barrientos or even the mayor of Austin took the trouble to attend the deployment of people who may be killed in Iraq.
Champion bicycle riders are fine, but perhaps we could all reflect on the irony of where the masses tend to be. It makes you wonder if the world or we will ever solve anything.
Thanks,
Michael Brooks
