Fund Stem Cell Research Privately

RECEIVED Fri., July 30, 2004

Dear Editor,
Sen. Hillary Clinton deliberately misspoke when, in her short appeasement speech, she mentioned "the ban on stem cell research." There is no ban on stem cell research; in fact, there is federal funding for stem cell research on already established lines of stem cells. There certainly is nothing preventing the private sector from doing stem cell research, and there are companies doing so right now. Stem cells were first identified in the mid-Eighties, and little progress has been made finding cures or treatments from them since. Considering that the left has pledged, through organizations like MoveOn.Org and Hollywood liberals, some $600 million to "get Bush out of office," perhaps their money might be better spent funding private stem cell research?
