Road Plan Needs More Analysis

RECEIVED Fri., July 23, 2004

Dear Editor,
I am very much opposed to making Highway 360 into a toll road ["Road Foes: Down, but Not Out?," News, July 23]. It is an Austin landmark, part of what makes the city special.
Also, it seems we're not getting much value out of the plan: converting existing roads to toll roads does not improve traffic flow as much as creating new toll roads would, like those of Houston.
I think the plan should be further debated, that a detailed cost/benefit and environmental impact analyses should be done and made available to the public, and that citizens should be allowed to vote on the plan.
