So Angry About the Way Things Are as to be Dizzy

RECEIVED Fri., May 21, 2004

Dear Editor,
On 9/11 nearly 4,000 Americans died in the worst terrorist disaster ever in America, so we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq and overthrew their governments at a cost of $200 billion and 800 soldiers dead. Didn't I hear Bush say that he was going after the evildoers no matter who or where they are? Cigarettes kill 400,000 Americans every year. One million Americans have died from cigarette smoking just since 9/11. Where are the tanks smashing through the tobacco company headquarters? The third leading cause of death is preventable infection from inadequate hospital sanitation. Why don't we station FBI detectives at every hospital? Gas prices have soared, causing severe hardship for millions while oil company profits have gone through the roof. Why haven't SWAT teams surrounded the ExxonMobil building and forced its executives to come out with their hands up? 45 million Americans have no health insurance because they cannot afford it. The leading cause of bankruptcy is from medical expenses. Why aren't helicopter gunships threatening insurance company skyscrapers? Kenneth Lay is living it up on 200 million bucks while his own employees who hoped to retire some day lost all their savings buying stock he knew would tank but encouraged them to buy. How come soldiers didn't have to hunt him down and pull him out of a hole somewhere? Now we hear from Seymour Hersh about a secret conspiracy to subject Iraqis to kidnapping, torture, sexual abuse, and blackmail in a scheme so off-the-wall that even the CIA bolted. Some congressmen are outraged because we are outraged. I could go on but I'm getting dizzy. I have a bad attitude lately, or I am just too stupid to understand. Hell, I'd rather have Nixon back!
