Dear Editor, I know the Chronicle and its readers probably couldn't care less for the whole moronic Super Bowl/Janet Jackson's boob pseudo scandal. But I thought it presents an excellent example of just how fugged up this country's moral and intellectual priorities are when it comes to the things people choose to be angered by. For instance, look at the Drudge Report. This right-winger is trumping up the outrage factor on his Web site, but still sees fit to display a massive close-up jpeg of Janet's "wardrobe malfunction" for all the galaxy to see, meaning that the "incident" has now received more visibility there than it did in the nanosecond it was visible on CBS. Ooh, yeah, everyone's so "offended" ... better look at it again! Also, it all just goes to show how morally adrift and confused America in general is. We're all shocked and scandalized by the "accidental" (cough cough) exposure of a breast on TV, but where is the moral outrage over a U.S. president and his administration who systematically lied to the country and the world to propel us into an illegal war in Iraq that has cost the lives of more than 500 U.S. servicemen and -women, and has rung up a trillion-dollar debt that our grandkids are going to be paying off? Oh yeah, right. CBS refused to air that commercial because it's controversial! Whatever ...
