PATRIOT Act Dangerous to Our Rights

RECEIVED Mon., Feb. 2, 2004

Dear Editor,
I want to thank Michael Ventura for sounding an alarm about the PATRIOT Act ["Letters @ 3am," Jan. 23]. It is time to strip away the political and racial labels that divide us and remember the unifying fact of U.S. citizenship. As citizens of this country we should all hold the Constitution and Bill of Rights as the most fundamental law of the land.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights are under attack. Not from outsiders but from the very people who took solemn oaths to protect and preserve the Constitution and Bill of Rights – the current Congress and administration. Our inalienable rights are slowly but surely being dismantled by the PATRIOT Act and the quietly enacted Patriot Act II.
As citizens of the United States it is time to uphold our time-honored way of life and work to halt the destruction of our core principles. True patriotism is upholding these venerable documents and the way of life that they have given us.
