The Past Isn't Dead

RECEIVED Tue., Jan. 6, 2004

Dear Chron,
Seven days into the new year and you start to notice that New Year's resolutions aren't being met, your friends and family have been telling little white lies, and the politics of business are following the same old recipes. It's enough to make the skin crawl.
William Faulkner wrote, "The past isn't dead. It isn't even past." What he meant is that our hippie-dippy dreams of a brand new world starting now will require a lot more work than a diet of Joe Millionaire and Sex and the City will provide for. Austin is weird enough, let's try making it better than a television show.
Then, there's always the option of leaving.
Peace out,
Todd Alan Smith
