Galveston Trying to Close Beaches

RECEIVED Mon., Aug. 18, 2003

Believe it or not there are many people around this state that are not aware that the city of Galveston is trying to close access to some of the beaches. Per the Texas Open Beaches Act, the beaches belong to the citizens of Texas, not to the city of Galveston. A group has formed to fight the city and keep the beaches open. They are www.texasopenbeaches.org. We can not let a city try and take away something from us, the citizens of Texas, that does not belong to them. Many of us visit Texas beaches throughout the year and can help us keep what belongs to us.
