"Hanging Out" a Cop-Out

"Hanging out" is the Austin dating scene's great cop-out. There can be no middle ground between being out with a buddy and being on a date. If you're not free to hit on other people then you're on a date, not hanging out. Deal with it. Risking failure, rejection, humiliation, and disappointment are simply part of the game. It's time we bucked up and quit trying to protect our fragile egos. If you're going to go on a date with someone, have the guts to do it outright.
