Powered by a drum machine, NYC avant-punk duo the Austerity Program are also on board, expanding on Big Black/Jesus Lizard ferocity with cinematic drama. King Coffey’s sludge-trudging power trio USA/Mexico and acrobatic post-punks Exhalants rep ATX.

Mamahawk could headline the first dance party on Mars. The locals marry celestial synths with swirling harmonies, staccato horns, and cosmic ambient samples. Dark since their eponymous 2015 bow cut through Austin’s alternative swath with future soul, this September residency introduces new material. 2018 singles “Brain Invaderz” and “Lioness” orbit a genre-free Justin Vernon and the Dirty Projectors.

The local cultural provocateurs go all bricks-n-mortar with a fine new outlet proffering a curation of local and international art goods, comics, and zines – and of course a big ol' group art show in the gallery – and this here's the opening party, with DJ sets by Corduroi and DJ Ella Ella, drinks by JuiceLand and Tito's, and, damn, this thing is gonna be rockin'.

Long Beach native Warren Griffin III was better known as Dr. Dre’s stepbrother before his classic single, the Nate Dogg-assisted “Regulate.” First featured on the Above the Rim soundtrack, the single boosted the rapper’s Def Jam debut, 1994’s triple-platinum Regulate…G Funk Era. Its monumental success, along with Redman’s Dare Iz a Darkside and Method Man’s Tical, saved the label from bankruptcy.

International Peace Day might be Sept. 21, but here in Austin we're taking 11 days to celebrate global unity. Amy’s Ice Creams is serving their signature Peace Day flavor, while organizations host special conversations on peace (see website for full schedule).: On Friday, Sept. 21, head to City Hall where Mayor Steve Adler and Austin Police Department Assistant Chief Justin Newsom will speak, along with special performances by poets and musicians.
