Amarillo Too Much for the Wranglers

The Austin Wranglers’ struggles continue as they lost to the Amarillo Dusters 65-40 on the road last Saturday. Austin has given up more than 60 points in every game this season, but they have yet to reach the 50-point mark even once. The Wranglers have now fallen to 0-3 on the season.

Matt Schneider had another solid game at quarterback for Austin with 247 yards passing and four touchdowns. He connected with John Roberson for four touchdowns to bring Roberson’s total to nine TD catches for the year. Roberson has been a consistent threat over the first few weeks of the season. The Wranglers need someone else on offense to step up and take the pressure off of Roberson and put some more points on the board.

Julian Reese, quarterback for Amarillo, was step for step with Schneider as he threw for four touchdowns on the evening as well. The Wranglers could not put the clamps on Donte Newsome, as he ran for three touchdowns to put the game out of reach. The Wranglers' defense again struggled when it mattered most and could not contain the Duster offense.

The next game for the Austin Wranglers is Sunday, April 20, 3pm at the Erwin Center where they will face the very explosive Rio Grande Valley Dorados. The Dorados just lost their first road game since 2006 to Corpus Christi this past weekend, and will be looking for revenge at the Drum.

Hopefully, the Wranglers get their defensive problems worked out and put more points on the board quickly, or it could be a very long season.
