This Week's Waste of Time
Have you recovered from last week's Independent Games Festival selections? Good, because it's time to sift through entries 100 through 230. Did I mention that there are roughly 600 of these games? Lucky for you only a small portion are playable on standard Internet browsers or you'd get nothing done. Here are those games:

SXSW Screenburn Moves to Palmer
The free and community-oriented arm of SXSW Interactive is moving from the SXSW home base across the river to the Palmer Events Center. We hope that they treat the SXSW Screenburn Arcade well and not like the step-child you only say you love as much as your real children (the real children are SXSW events at the convention center in case you lost the metaphor).

This Week's Waste of Time
Hold on to your hats, it's time to dive into the Independent Games Festival again. I'll be going through 100 games per week for the next six weeks pulling out only those games that are free to play without any special plug-ins other than Flash. That turns out to be only a small portion of the nearly 600 entries, but, seriously, make sure your hat is secure.

This Week's Waste of Time
A game based on the art of typeset spacing (aka kerning) appears to be a design-nerd's fontgasm at first glance … and second glance and third and every glance after that. But for the rest of us it can be five minutes that you spend thinking about something glanced over every other moment of your life. Get your rulers out, it's time to play Kerntype!

This Week's Waste of Time
You may not realize it, but GDC Online is happening right under your Austin-y nose with game developers gathering together to talk shop. The average, non-tech-employed Austinite really has no business there; even I, a gaming journalist, feel a bit out of my depths there. But, hey, we got a free videogame out of it. Woohoo!

What I Learned at Fantastic Arcade: Saturday
The talks at the Fantastic Arcade are heating up. Having the creator of Fez interview the maker of Faraway made for an in depth look at that game. But it's still hard to tear yourself away from all those sweet, sweet games that beckon players to them. Here's what I found out about gaming yesterday.

Fantastic Arcade Interview: Robin Hunicke
Despite the din of a HighBall stuffed to the gills with hi-def screens bleeping and blooping for players’ attention, the headphoned ambiance of Journey is a respite. The shifting sand of the expansive world reveals its secrets slowly, but the beautifully rendered landscapes are open to the player from the onset.

Things I Learned at Fantastic Arcade: Bonus Edition
Here's a little rambling aside to spice up my daily Fantastic Arcade blogs. It exists, if for no other reason, than to highlight the fact that the arcade is free. And how great that is. (And I get to use my shakey face photo that didn't make it to my badge)
